Good lighting is important also. IMPORTANT: avoid eating or drinking anything that can cause discoloration on your tongue.

Herbal formulas may be administered in raw form to decoct, powdered concentrates, liquid concentrates, as well as pills and capsules. Herbs and supplements can be shipped or picked up at the door of our 15th Street location or shipped to you.

Emily is a bodyworker, educator, and embodiment coach. Her work combines neuromuscular, structural, and relaxation techniques to help clients address tissue imbalance, tension, and pain. She puts a strong emphasis on getting to know her clients and the various sources of stress in their lives. Emily has worked with a wide array of clients, including professional dancers, clients healing from chronic illness, as well as anxiety and depression. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania, in human development. Her studies focus on stress management and coping skills in kids, teens, and young adults.

Native to Poland and living in Philadelphia, PA, Beata Maslanka has been practicing Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine all across the world. One of her greatest passions is acupuncture facial rejuvenation treatment. This treatment helps many Beata’s patients keep their youthful and healthy appearance, while improving their overall health and wellbeing. Check out this video featuring her on ABC6 news.

In addition to facial rejuvenation, Beata’s practice focuses on gynecology and fertility, internal medicine, including the treatment of digestive disorders, stress related conditions, and respiratory disorders. Beata has studied and practiced in a range of diverse clinical settings. While a student, she interned as acupuncturist at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, working at The Initiative for Women with Disabilities Program, St. Vincent Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in New York City, NY.

Combining her love of travel and adventure with acupuncture, Beata moved to beautiful Dublin, Ireland where she established a clinic and then provided acupuncture onboard the ship Adonia, cruising the Caribbean, Central America and Brazil’s Amazon. Upon returning to Philadelphia, Beata practiced with Dr. Lisa Beth Freedman in Villanova, PA as well as at the Art of Wellness, a Holistic Wellness Center for Mental Health in Philadelphia before joining her long time friend and colleague Cara Frank at Six Fishes Neighborhood Acupuncture.

Cara Frank has been a practitioner and teacher of Acupuncture and Chinese herbology since 1993. She is a popular lecturer, known especially for her clear and humorous teaching style. Cara has demystified Chinese Herbology for acupuncturists, doctors, nurses, veterinarians, botanists and researchers.

Cara’s initial training was at the New England School of Acupuncture where she is a 1983 graduate. She is a 1988 graduate of Empire State College, where she received a Bachelors of Professional Studies in Chinese Medical Studies. Her herbal training was with Ted Kaptchuk, OMD, Simon Mills and at the Xi Yuan Hospital in Beijing, China. It was in China, that her love affair with Chinese herbs took root, and still flourishes. Recently, Cara has studied Classical Formulas with Dr Huang Huang of Nanjing.

In 1991, she founded China Herb Company, which was the first mail order compounding Chinese herbal dispensary in the United States. Cara has developed a line of her own herbal formulas, including formulas for cancer support, respiratory and pediatric health under the brand name “Six Fishes Chinese Herbs.”

Cara is the founder of Six Fishes Chinese Medicine, an acupuncture and herb practice with two locations in Philadelphia. She leads a team of TCM practitioners who specialize in herbology, EENT disorders, pediatrics and internal medicine.

Cara has been an instructor of Chinese Herbology since 1996. She was the director of the department of Chinese herbology at the Tai Sophia Institute from 2003 to 2011. Currently, Cara is the Director of the Department of Chinese Herbology at the Won Institute of Graduate Studies in Glenside, PA. Cara created the entire department, designed an innovative curriculum and is the primary instructor of the program. Using classical texts along with the modern teaching methodology and the latest technology, she developed a website for the class that included photographs, podcasts, handouts, class blogs to enhance the students learning experience.
